- 1 1/ tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 granulated sugar
3/4 cup olive oil - 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Zest of 1 large orange
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup buttermilk or dairy-free alternative
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (gluten-free)
For the Orange Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp fresh orange juice
- Orange zest for garnish
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and line with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together Schär Flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, whisk the sugar and olive oil until well combined. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract and orange zest.
- Alternately whisk in the dry ingredients and the warm water, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir in the buttermilk until everything is well combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
For the glaze:
- Combine the powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth.
- Once the cake is cool, drizzle the glaze over the top and garnish with additional orange zest.
